Policy analysis
In 2017 and 2019, I worked in the office of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade for the Province of Alberta. As a Ministerial Assistant, I reported to the Minister’s Chief of Staff and took on a range of duties supporting the Minister’s work. I triaged incoming correspondence and phone calls, determining what needed the Minister’s attention, and helping draft and edit his responses. I acted as a liaison point between the Minister and the civil servants and subject matter experts in the department. I wrote and edited briefing notes, speeches, and policy documents, and conducted ad hoc policy research. I also staffed the Minister at meetings with stakeholders (industry leaders, academic researchers, start-up founders, foreign legislators, etc.) and at events, briefing him before meetings and managing his schedule.
During the 2019 Alberta provincial election, I worked as the Voter Contact Organizer for a local campaign in one of the province’s 87 ridings. I put together a team of 75 volunteers—teaching them how to communicate key messages through door-knocking and phoning. Ultimately, my team contacted over 9,000 voters and used the data we gathered to determine our campaign strategy.
I also briefed our candidate on major policy positions, staffed her at local events, helped organize a dozen meet-and-greets at retirement residences and schools, managed her social media accounts, and wrote and directed a candidate introduction video which received over 50,000 views across major social media channels (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter).
