Global Risk Observatory - Solar storm article

Having taken a class on risk analysis at Sciences Po Urban School in Paris, I was interested in learning more about risk assessment and joined the Munk School’s Global Risk Observatory in the final semester of my degree.

I wrote a piece about Coronal Mass Ejections—also known as solar storms—and the low-probability/high hazard risk that they represent to our infrastructure and to our national security.

I am fascinated by these types of black swan events—and the question of how policymakers and leaders can devote resources to preparing for them when they are both so unlikely and so potentially devastating.
