Mackenzie Institute article - Canada's Strong, Secure, Engaged defence policy and 21st century grand strategy

In the final semester of my Master of Global Affairs degree at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, I took a course called “Grand Strategy and Global Challenges” which focused on the power dynamics of the Korean peninsula and the six major players involved (The ROK, DPRK, Japan, China, Russia, and the United States).

Throughout the class, I worked on two research projects analyzing the grand strategies of China and the DPRK. For my final essay, I wanted to look closer to home, and so I produced a high-level strategic overview of the threats facing Canada and how our federal government is responding to them (as described in its 2017 defence policy document).

My essay ended up winning one of the inaugural prizes from the Mackenzie Institute’s 2018 Langley Hope Academic Excellence in Security and Defense Commentary Award.

You can read my essay here (Part 1) and here (Part 2).
